About the Instructor

Yoon Hee Kim is a Korean ceramic artist based in the United States and the founder of Yoon Lab Ceramics. With over a decade of experience, she specializes in traditional Korean wheel throwing techniques, with a particular focus on Moon Jars, larger forms, and mindful making. She earned her BFA in Design from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and trained in South Korea under master potters, where she spent years studying traditional Korean ceramics. Today, she shares her practice through in person and online workshops, teaching potters around the world the techniques and principles that have shaped her approach to clay.

Prerequisites & Materials

Suitable for intermediate potters who are comfortable centering clay and throwing basic cylinders. Participants should have access to a pottery wheel, basic throwing tools, and 3 to 4.5 kg (6.5 to 10 lbs) of well wedged or pug-milled stoneware or porcelain clay. Demonstrations will be performed using porcelain clay.

  • The workshop will be hosted live on Zoom. Access details will be emailed after registration.

  • Yes. The workshop is taught entirely in English by Korean ceramic artist Yoon Kim.

  • Participants are welcome to throw along on their own wheel during the live workshop. However, the workshop can also be enjoyed off the wheel if you prefer to watch, take notes, and practice later.

    Many students find it helpful to focus on observing the demonstrations and techniques during the live session, then revisit the recording while practicing at their own pace. A workshop replay will be available for 7 days after the class.

  • Yes. The workshop includes a live Q&A session where participants can ask questions throughout the demonstration.

  • Yes. A recording of the workshop will be available for 14 days after the live session so you can revisit the demonstrations and practice at your own pace.

  • The live workshop is approximately 90 minutes long and includes a complete demonstration along with time for questions. A recording of the workshop will be available for 14 days after the class.

  • You will still receive access to the recording for 7 days after the workshop.

  • All registrations for live online workshops are non refundable. If you are unable to attend, you will still receive access to the workshop recording for 7 days.
